Stories to Inspire
Here you can read an interview with Emily, she participated in Delft career Days a year ago and found an internship this way.
Where were you in the process of looking for a job or internship before participating in the DCD?
Emily Smit was a second-year Bachelor’s student in the double Bachelor program of Applied Physics and Mathematics. She learned about the Delft Career Days (DCD) through her roommate and decided to participate as practice for the following year, when she planned to look for an internship after completing her Bachelor’s.
She attended the orientation days with two clear questions in mind:
1.What do you do?
2.What do you have to offer?
At one of the stands during the orientation days, she was given a concrete example of a project she could potentially contribute to. What started as a practice session quickly turned into a successful day at that moment, as she might have secured an internship a year earlier than planned.
Which DCD events did you attend?
Emily attended the Application Training and Orientation Days to prepare for the process of applying for jobs. This included creating a strong CV and an understanding of what to expect from an application process.
How was the interaction with the companies during the DCD?
I asked Emily if she noticed any difference in how companies interacted with her as a second-year Bachelor’s student, given that the Delft Career Days are often attended mostly by Master’s students or those nearing the end of their studies. According to her, this wasn’t an issue at all. She did observe that her options were somewhat more limited compared to Master’s students. However, it was clear that the companies present at the Orientation Days were very eager to connect with students of the TU Delft, including younger ones like herself.
How did the rest of the process with the company go?
The application process began directly at the event after Emily expressed interest in a project that was presented to her. She was able to scan a QR code to indicate her interest and submit her CV. Since the company she’s joining isn’t very large, there wasn’t a highly formal application process.
